oh first things first... people were asking about the february 11th show, and i really dunno where to get tickets, i just know that the headliner is four year strong, so they might know a bit more about it, or have more info on their website, but as for us, i keep asking everyone and no one has idea how to get tickets.
yesterday we began pre production with these two guys nik and matt. we we are doing 3 new songs with them. i'm real stoked, they seem like they really know what they're doing. we all have some great ideas flowing and i'm pumped for it. i just wish we had more time and could do more songs... we have tons of other songs i wanted to lay down, but we had to choose our favorites, which is always a bummer. i'm not looking forward to that process in the end. we'll have to end up cutting like 5-10 songs, and that will just be no fun.
the 3 songs we're doing right now are very different. we have one song called 'back door' (and no, it's not about what you think it's about) which is like a very gin blossoms, counting crows type of song. i am excited for it because i will get to put some organ and acoustic stuff and all this different percussion that we don't normally do. another song is called 'SF' which is really rock. more like some of our older songs like que sera sera and like what are you doing man that's weird... but not as crazy... a little more hooky, while still being a little more bad ass. the last song is a really poppy song. this song sounds like switchfoot meets a military marching band... maybe i'm being a little over analytical, but maybe you'll see what i'm talking about once you hear them, and hopefully we'll get to show you these at some point. we had a few more songs that we wanted to do, one was like a pop punk like new found glory/blink 182 song and another was like an alkaline trio-ish song. we've been trying to explore different influences with these newer songs. we have a song that's even like dashboard or coldplay-ish. i have a bunch of new ideas as well, that we'll be writing after we get out of the studio and i want to go a few different directions and make this record really dynamic and interesting... we also want to get some more faster more upbeat songs to keep that vibe that we had going on the last record.
other than that... today we are starting to track the drums, we've been here since like 930 or 10 this morning and we're going to be here till like 2 am. we have lots of free time, because we've been just getting drum sounds for about 8 hours. we've been just playing guitar hero. we didn't know the code to play all the songs, so we started on medium and we beat it a few hours ago and now we're gonna try and beat it on hard, and then maybe expert. we will be here for the next 4 days so it's gonna be tons of guitar hero and watching curb your enthusiasm. i just hope after playing guitar hero i will be able to play real guitar once it's my turn... we shall see.
i'll update tomorrow again. time for sweet child o mine solo on hard.
