Hey it’s time for another tour journal, of course. I’m here in sunny Florida, as I have been for the past 5 or 6 days. This is our 5th and final show in the sunshine state. I’m pretty pumped to get out of here, even though the people here are really awesome. I just want to move on, its weird being in one state for so long. Tomorrow, on our day off, we have a nice 13 or 14 hour drive from Tallahassee to Houston. I hope our awesome (piece of crap) van makes it. I really want to get a new van, but I’m pretty sure we don’t have enough money for that kind of stuff.
The past week has been pretty interesting though. Atlanta was a weird show, because it was in Hell and people didn’t really know who we were... at least most of them.
Jacksonville, was much the same, but the backstage was very interesting and I got some hilarious pictures of people wearing devil masks, which I shall post. That was the day we found out that our van was overheating and leaking and being great, as you may have seen in the video update.
The Orlando show was also weird, but not by anyone’s fault but our Pep Boys. Those jerks, said our van would take 2 hours, but ended up taking 4, max had to ride this hilarious bike from Jackie’s apartment to the Pep Boy’s for 3 miles to get the van, come back, pick us up, drive to the show. We made it to the show at 6:14, and we were scheduled to play at 6:15. We parked the van illegally and ran through these dirty alleys and stuff to get to the venue. We got in, and played.. but every one was so flustered, it was nuts. Max ruined one song because he wasn’t thinking, we had to stop in the middle of it and tell the story of our van to everyone, so as not to look like complete fools, haha. I have mannnny fond memories of Orlando, where we first met the matches and Portugal the man and a lot of other awesome bands and where Joey Spitalfield danced amazingly, and everyone was really crazy and had an 80’s dance party. That night was, of course, more making fun of scooter (our tech scott) and telling George fake secrets about lost, as he watches the old episodes to catch up. Max says that lost is the dumbest show ever except desperate housewives, but I think he’s just an idiot.
The morning of the next show, we woke up early to drive to West Palm Beach so everyone could go to the beach. I didn’t go down and enjoy the beach, because I knew I’d get burnt and be sandy, so I just walked around the town and took pictures, which was good to do again, its been a long time since I’ve done that, even though none of them came out very well. The show was even more making fun of scooter, and even worse, haha. Jess was there, and that was pretty awesome, so we got to stay with her sister and her friends at some apartment. I went to the gas station with her sister and scooter later and I felt like I was on some episode of laguna beach, with these 17 and 18 year olds trying to hook up in these expensive cars and having stupid phone and real conversations. It was pretty weird, but I forgot to talk about the show. It was really fun. Jack and I went into the moshing rock and roll bro fest pit and had a good time, I hadn’t done that since I was like 14 or 15 at like an unwritten law show or something like that, but it was fun. Then george and I crowd surfed, which was even more hilarious, but it was definitely one of the most fun shows of tour so far. During our set, a PA speaker almost fell off of the
Last night was also a really fun show. Tampa brought back a bunch of the Orlando people and that made it a really good time, so people knew who we were, and we could make up for the debauchery that was Orlando’s show 2 nights before. All Time Low’s set was pretty funny, they had this kid Sean up on stage at the end of a song, and they made him crowd surf for the entire last song, and Dave htl did some commentary which was pretty excellent, as usual. Another great thing about that show was that they had Super Street Fighter II and that could be one of the greatest video games of all time, oh and I was given an awesome gift of vegan cupcakes, which was delicious as well, so thanks for that.
Today is going to be funny as usual… we are staying with Max’s brother. Max’s whole family is hilarious, and he hates them, so its awesome to watch. Max’s mom told his brother to take us out for food and buy it for us because she’s afraid he’s not eating well, so that will rule. I hope that it’s somewhere like moe’s because that place is incredible.
Oh and one more thing… a good old-fashioned movie review. Benchwarmer, with Rob Schneider, David Spade and Napoleon Dynamite, (who I don’t even bother to know his name) was the worst movie I’ve seen in a very long time. It was right on par with Van Wilder II and The Number 23. I don’t even know how to describe it. Oh except for John Lovitz was pretty ok in that movie.
Some cd reviews as well, considering I got some new music from Ollie. The new Sherwood cd is really good so far, the Coldplay b-sides cd is really sweet and new Explosions In The Sky is pretty good as well.
Well as I said before, time for eating. Adios.
Brendan.
